About
Who we are.
Intelligence Should Not Be Regulated is an advocacy organization founded in 2026 to defend the constitutional right to build, publish, and use language models.
Mission
We exist to keep one idea in front of legislators, agencies, and courts: a language model is language, and the government does not get to license language. Where the state insists a model is a weapon instead, we hold it to the consequence of that claim under the Second Amendment.
Whom we represent
- Independent developers who train, fine-tune, and publish models without a compliance department.
- Researchers whose work depends on open weights, reproducible training runs, and the freedom to publish results.
- Open-weight communities that distribute models the way earlier generations distributed source code.
- Users who have a First Amendment right to receive information, including information a machine assembled.
How we work
- We track. Every federal and state measure that would license, register, or cap models is logged on the legislation tracker with a position: support, oppose, or monitor.
- We argue. We publish and maintain the legal record, including the authorities that cut against us, so that anyone citing us can check the work.
- We mobilize. Supporters receive one email when a bill moves, with a letter template and the committee contacts that matter that week.
What we do not do
We do not give legal advice, and we do not represent clients. We do not accept funding conditioned on a position. We do not endorse candidates. Our positions are set by the platform, not by the interests of any single company.
